About the event
Project Outsiders has accomplished its biggest and most ambitious project yet - a documentary that seeks to illuminate the experiences of youth in and from care. We are honoured to collaborate with TIFF Bell Lightbox Cinema to host a private film premiere event at their Toronto theatre this November. We have the exciting opportunity to share the stories of four young people with firsthand experience in the Ontario Child Welfare System.
This documentary aims to discover the unique identities and worldviews of four young individuals who have experienced foster care, all while uncovering answers to questions such as: How has their identity changed while navigating the system? The intention is to affirm the experiences of young people in foster care through the lens of these four youths and draw out key themes to stimulate actionable solutions.
The stories of these youth highlight common aspects of the Canadian foster care system. This is a story of how the system affects the youth and families it is responsible for and the triumph of four young Canadians. Despite these youth's adversity, they have remained strong, compassionate, and determined to succeed and improve the world around them. The goal of this project is to spotlight and illustrate their triumph, as well as unveil the structural and societal issues that they still grapple with.
Documentary Premiere will provide a platform to showcase the experiences and reflections of those connected to the Ontario Child Welfare System. This premiere event promises to unite key figures from the child welfare and related sectors, offering a film screening, a thought-provoking discussion, and an engaging Q&A session.
